Study & Teaching Abroad
Study Abroad: 2004 – one month, 2005 2 – months, 2006 3 – months. Ballyvaughan, County Clare, Ireland Specific area of interest early Chiristianity, Celtic neolithic-paleolithic blending, Ireland as a living museum experiencing the historic landscape, people, the arts and music of the area. Took evening and day classes at The Burren College of Art. Multiple field studies, prints, watercolors and torn paper pieces.
Study and Teaching Abroad: 2009, 2 weeks Fez, Morocco International Festival of Sacred Music Celebration. Special interest experiencing music from multiple religions all over the world, witnessing the expression of music, art and dance of the region. Learning the history of a country that has lived peacefully with 3 denominations of Muslims, Christians and Jews. Taught painted journal to fellow travelers.
Study and Teaching Abroad: 2010; 6 weeks camping: The Kimberly Region, Australia Special area of interest, visiting sacred rock art sites, multiple sites with private safari guide a specialist of Aboriginal History, learned bush plants, medicine, birds and fauna. Taught mixed media art to fellow travelers throughout the six week journey with acrylic, watercolors and graphics plus ochres and bark from the land.
Volunteer Work and Teaching
Volunteer work: Gilda’s Club worked with cancer patients with my expressive arts training through my process of the painted journal.
Volunteer work: Vanderbilt Oncology Department with expressive arts committee creating a celebration art project of prayers and affirmations on canvas that is permanently displayed in the cancer center at Vanderbilt.
The Sunny Day Club: Sharing the gift of art with elderly dementia and Alzheimer’s clients once a month. I have created art play exercises for sensory of touch, color, texture, shape and eye/hand coordination using simple art supplies and organic materials from nature.
Teaching: Enso Group, 2010, 2011, 2012 Taught in my studio expressive arts through my process of the painted journal for group of cancer survivors.
Group teaching on location in my studio 2014, 2015 , 2016- through current Teaching on location in my studio, mixed media, abstract expressionism, pigmented and printed paper workshops, painted journal sessions.
